The festive season, the pressure and expectations it can bring, may add further friction and frustration in a couple's relationship, that may already be unstable...
Here I share with you some practical strategies to help couples avoid seasonal strain and stay connected with each other.
Communicate
Good communication is the base for any successful relationship. This festive season, dedicate time to discuss your hopes, expectations and worries with each other. Set aside time to check in with one another and talk about the Christmas plans. Couples who actively practice open communication have fewer conflicts. Listening to each other’s concerns, with empathy, can help bring you closer together.
Plan it
Having a clear plan of tasks, activities, events and gatherings can help reduce anxiety and promote teamwork between you. Working together and sharing responsibility not only alleviates the burden, but also encourages connection.
Time for Each Other
Between all the planning and festivities, ensure you spend quality time together also. Schedule in some "couple time", maybe a "date night", this could be a simple stroll hand in hand. These moments refresh your connection with each other and make the season even more enjoyable.
Gratitude and Appreciation
Showing appreciation for each other, even in simple things. Take time to express your gratitude for them. A simple gesture, such as a "thank you" can create a more positive atmosphere. Make it a habit to acknowledge the good, reinforcing love and resilience against festive stresses.
A Joyful Season
The festive season can be both rewarding and challenging for couples. While it offers the chance for beautiful memories, it may also bring hidden tensions to the forefront. By prioritising open communication, setting realistic expectations, collaborating on a plan, and making time for each other, couples can reduce the likelihood of conflicts and grow closer together. Embrace the joy of the season!
